The Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) on September 17, 2026, has launched the “4-Stream Waste Segregation and Door-to-Door Collection” system.
The following has been stated:
• AMC has launched the “4-Stream Waste Segregation and Door-to-Door Collection” system across seven AMC Wards in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. The system requires households to segregate waste into four streams: Wet Waste (biodegradable waste), Dry Waste (non-biodegradable recyclable/processable waste), Sanitary Waste (waste requiring careful wrapping and disposal), and Special Care Waste (hazardous waste posing risks to the environment, soil and human health). Separate colour-coded bins and dedicated arrangements for transportation, processing and final disposal will be provided for each stream.
• The initiative aims to strengthen systematic waste collection, processing and recycling within Aizawl Municipality, with participation from households, local councils and community institutions. The AMC is currently implementing the system in 32 localities across seven wards, with emphasis on community participation and proper processing of waste collected from households.
